Business to Books Read-a-thon
Each spring and fall, volunteers read to kindergarten and first grade classes at Stamford elementary schools.
Summer Reading Partners
Corporate volunteers read one-on-one with 3rd - 5th graders to help boost reading skills during the summer months of July and August. The program works with campers at The Boys and Girls Club of Stamford and The Yerwood Center.
Back to School Clothes for Kids
Member companies and their employees purchase school clothes, backpacks, and school supplies for needy children in Stamford. Items are delivered to the schools prior to the beginning of the school year.
Suds to Go
Member companies and their employees collect soaps and shampoos during their travels. Items are given to organizations that will make them available to persons in need. Each year over 1,000 toiletry items are distributed.
PJs and Books
This project was started in 2004 after learning that frequently, many children who are removed from difficult home situations and put into temporary housing arrive with only the clothes on their backs. To provide relief to these children, businesses collect new, warm pajamas, to be paired with new, age-appropriate books. The WVC has donated these items to Kids in Crisis.
