Testimonials

Supporting/Encouraging Volunteerism

Our staff works hard to support the programs and services needed to encourage volunteerism in our communities and to strengthen our non-profit agencies. Read the some of the testimonials we have received:

Thank you for your support again last month with The Volunteer Center's donation of toiletries to the Senior Nutrition Program. We created over 350 gift bags for the seniors in the greater Stamford and Norwalk, and the shampoos, body washes, combs and other items made a huge difference. Several clients phoned the office to express their happiness at being remembered and for receiving such helpful items. I am greatful for the continued generosity of the Volunteer Center and all of the good work you accomplish.

-Cindy Phelps, Director. of Senior Nutrition Program

The DOVIA Brown Bag Networking Lunch last week at The Volunteer Center was just wonderful. Prior to the event, I was not aware that there were so many quality resources available to nonprofits here at Fairfield County libraries. Since the event, I have visited Greenwich and New Canaan libraries. Each library has a diverse array of books and relevant online resources which have been quite useful to me.

I just want to report that we received donations of cat food from two individuals and a box fan from another individual as a result of the Holiday Helpers wish list. Thanks so much!

-Cathryn Oulihan, Head of Volunteers & Interns. of Stamford Musean & Nature Center

For the past 3 months, RJS Associates of Stamford has been promoting The Volunteer Center of SWFC and the "back to school kids program" with each and every sale we make. We have informed all client companies that a donation is being made in their name to the "back to school kids program". Everyone at RJS Associates participated in purchasing the clothes and the program was an inspirational teambuilding experience. Thanks to The Volunteer Center of SWFC for your assistance in helping RJS Associates to participate and establish this program.

-Richard Gold, Senior Recruiter-Accounting & Finance. of RJS Associates, INC

Dear Kathy - The Youth of Ivy Memorial & Parkview Baptist are so excited about coming to Connecticut of their mission in such a few short days. As a parent of one of the youth of Ivy, I am always blessed when she comes home full of news about the services & work they did. You and your group & the services you provide are in our prayers as we prepare to come & serve with you. We are looking forward to meeting you & working with you.

-In his service, Sharon. of Ivy Memorial Baptist Church

I have been meaning to let you know that I am now a volunteer for CT Legal Services, thanks to your website. It is a great help. Nice job.

-Barbara Cox. of

Great, and it has definitely been paying off. We get about half of our volunteers as referrals from your website.

-Andrew Sindell, Director Resources and Blood Support. of American Red Cross-Greenwich Chapter

Had a great time helping to serve food at Pacific House this evening. I would highly recommend pushing others in CVIA to do it at least once. It is great to see an organization like that in action, and makes me very thankful for everything I have.

-Jeff. of CVIA member

That was a phenomenal workshop, whether an old pro or a newbie. What a great job. Hats off to Deloitte for giving back!!

-Peter Flierl. of MSW

On behalf of our staff and clients of Liberation Programs, Inc, we would like to thank you for connecting us to Citibank this past holiday season. Citibank was very generous and their gifts meant that our families in our community were able to enjoy the holiday with their children. The support your organization provides to needy members of our community and your commitment to improving the lives of others is greatly appreciated. We are very grateful for your assistance in our stated mission, to fight the disease of addiction and look forward to your continued support. --Rebecca Rutkowski, Director of Outpatient Services and Sophie Hughes, MSW Outpatient Services for Liberation Programs, Inc.

Thank you for remembering us again this past holiday season with the donation of toiletries. They were part of the 350+ holiday gift bags we created for seniors, and they were truly appreciated. We are grateful for the continued generosity of The Volunteer Center and appreciate all the good work you accomplish.

-Cindy Phelps, Director. of Senior Nutrition Program of Catholic Charities

On behalf of the women and children of Famlies in Recovery, I'd like to thank you for your organizations' most generous donation of an RCA TV/VCR, a Bother fax machine, several T-shirts and four desk trays. The residents at FIRP will now be able to watch the videos they have been unable to see since our VCR broke a few months ago, and the staff will be able to work more efficiently thanks to the fax machine's advanced features. We appreciate the work that your organization does on behalf of the community nonprofit organizations and are very glad to be the recipient of these much appreciated items.

-Maggie Young,CAC,CCOD, Director of Residential Services and Dale Flaste, M.A., Team Leader. of Families in Recovery/Liberation Programs, INC

On behalf of the Greenwich Chapter, I want to thank you and The Volunteer Center for all that you do to support the programs and services in our community with trainings and networking opportunities and most importantly the platform to recognize our dedicated volunteers in a larger community forum. In addition to recognizing outstanding volunteer dedication, your event allows the community to learn about the many vital services that are volunteer driven in this community, and hopefully inspires more individuals to get involved in the future. Congratulations to you and your staff for another outstanding event!

-Jody-Lynn M. Breakell, Senior Director of Programs & Services. of American Red Cross-Greenwich Chapter

We have received numerous emails from prospective volunteers through The Volunteer Center. We are very grateful for all the volunteers you send us.

-Claudette A. Tallon, Volunteer Coordinator. of Voluntary Services for the Blind

The Volunteer Center's Volunteer Management Training Series is extremely powerful. For St. Luke's LifeWorks/Bread & Roses, we simply could not do what we do to help people without the help of volunteers. They give us the important gift of their talents, time and energy and it is vital to respect each volunteer's contribution by making sure the time they give is well spent. The workshop series is a proving ground for best practices shared by non-profits using volunteers.

The young men at Passages, our traditional living program, were thrilled when we showed up with the donated teak dining set. They eat breakfast there every weekend and sit together and talk almost every night during the cool evening hours. Domus relies on generous donations like this one to provide our kids with a lovely home, schools with engaging learning envoirnments, and a community center full of fun and love, all helping our kids reach their potential. We could never afford to buy a teak furniture set like this. Thank you!

-Garland Walton. of Domus

I would like to thank [Kathy Fawcett] for making a contact with The Advocate on [Senior Nutrition Program's] behalf. We received several donations through the program and were able to make a new contact with a local 4H Club. The Holiday Helpers program made a difference for us this year, and we hope you will consider us for the program next year.

Our organization, the Historic Neighborhood Preservation Program Inc. needed help managing the mailing list for our newsletter. Through [The Volunteer Center] website we were introduced to Al Menikoff of Westport, a retiree whose assistance was of the sort we needed. He appeared at our office, created the appropriate files for us and promised to return whenever needed. He was wonderful and we are eternally grateful to you (and to him). Thank you again

-Renee Kahn, Director. of

You and your group [Community Volunteers In Action] will be pleased to hear that the Valentine cards were very well received by the seniors at the Senior Neighborhood Support program here in Stamford. The cards brought many seniors much happiness and smiles. Thanks for thinking of them.
